What are the key characteristics and trends in electric vehicle crashes?
Research Project, 2024
– 2025
The transition to vehicle electrification presents novel challenges to traffic safety, distinct from those posed by internal combustion engine vehicles (ICE) vehicles. However, research on electric vehicle (EV) safety, particularly studies grounded in real-world EV crash data, remains considerably limited on a global scale. This limitation impedes the development of effective safety countermeasures and strategies by road authorities and traffic agencies. This project seeks to address this knowledge gap by analysing traffic crash data in Sweden spanning from 2018 to 2023. The primary objective is to gain a precise understanding of the distinctive characteristics and emerging trends associated with EV-related crashes. The anticipated findings hold the potential to offer fresh perspectives and new insights into addressing safety concerns linked to EVs.
