Chalmers iGEM project 2024
Research Project, 2024

The purpose of this project is to target the global issue of increasing antimicrobial resistance by developing a silencing system that can be used with various delivery systems to achieve more effective treatment of bacterial infections. The goal is to construct several plasmid-based systems that can target and silence the expression of antibiotic resistance genes in different ways. The different systems that will be constructed are based upon CRISPR/Cas9, CRISPR/Cas13, sRNA and ribozymes.

The expected results include successfully constructing and verifying the efficiency of the silencing systems through transformation of antibiotic resistant bacteria and then adding antibiotics. Additionally, different delivery systems will be explored for future clinical application. The results will contribute to future research in the field of antibiotic resistance. By spreading information about our project and the current situation, we will raise awareness regarding the issue.
