Modified graphene nano coating to upcycle waste biofiber for 3D printing building and large size bearing packaging
Research Project, 2025

In this project, we aim to develop and validate a novel surface-modified graphene nanosheet as a thermally stable, multifunctional nanocoating for bio-based fibers. The stability and recyclability of the fibers will be tested at a lab scale. The project seeks to impart thermal stability and hydrophobicity to cellulose fibers, along with enhanced moisture and UV barrier properties. These advanced fibers can be utilized in 3D printing for housing applications and in the production of large-scale, load-bearing packaging materials.

The expected project results will elevate the technology readiness level of graphene-based nanotechnology from 3 (proof of concept) to 5 (technology validated in a relevant industrial environment) through collaboration with our industrial partners. Additionally, the project aims to advance the market readiness level of graphene-based nanotechnology from 1 (formulated market need) to 2 (validated commercialization potential).
