CMF Circularity AI: Transforming Vehicle Design with Customer Insights
Research Project, 2024 – 2025

This project aims to address the challenge of integrating sustainable materials in automotive design without compromising quality, durability, or aesthetics. Traditional materials like leather and plastics are durable but environmentally harmful, while eco-friendly alternatives are often perceived as lower quality. The project will utilize AI-driven generative design and customer insights to help automakers select sustainable materials that align with both environmental goals and customer expectations.

A key innovation is the development of a CMF Circularity AI Agent. This AI system will analyze customer preferences for color, material, and finish (CMF) while considering the CMF framework to ensure that materials not only meet consumer expectations but also align with circular design principles. The AI agent will help optimize material selection by balancing sustainability, aesthetics, and performance, driving circularity in vehicle design.

The project’s measurable objectives include reducing the carbon footprint of vehicle materials by 25%, ensuring 90% of customers rate AI-selected sustainable materials as equal to or better than traditional ones, and shortening the time-to-market for new materials by 30%. By integrating customer insights and CMF framework considerations with advanced AI, this initiative aims to set new industry standards for eco-friendly automotive design.
