SBC (STRUKTURELLA BATTERIKOMPOSITER) FÖRSTUDIE AVSKÄRMNING
Research Project, 2024
– 2025
Lithium-ion batteries are crucial, particularly in the electrification of theaerospace and automotive industries. However, their heavy weight and monofunctionality limittheir efficient application. To address these challenges, our research groups are developingmultifunctional structural battery composites that can simultaneously carry mechanical loadsand store electrochemical energy. While these multifunctional (electrochemical andmechanical) structural batteries show promise for automotive, aerospace, and defenceapplications, they also have the potential to offer an additional crucial functionality: EMIshielding. EMI is a significant challenge as it can disrupt the functioning of electronic devices, posing serious risks to safety and security. Here, EMI shielding for low observability is alsotargeted. In this pre-study, we set out to explore the possibility to integrate EMI shielding into thestructural battery itself, thereby expanding its multifunctionality to not only store energy andcarry mechanical loads but also protect against electromagnetic interference.
