Lindholmen Transition Lab - Integrated development of future sustainable living environments
Research Project, 2025 – 2030

By creating conditions to make it easier for academia, business and the public sector to test and implement projects for societal transformation, both in a digital and a physical environment, we contribute to the development of a sustainable, attractive and accessible living environment for all.
Lindholmen in Gothenburg has undergone a major transformation from a shipyard to an office landscape in recent decades. Now a major step is being taken towards a smart transformation, where all the conditions are in place for an attractive living environment for everyone and where innovative cutting-edge companies, families with children and tourists thrive side by side. The purpose of the Lindholmen Transformation Lab is to test and scale up innovative solutions for a sustainable societal transformation. Together between the City of Gothenburg, Lindholmen Science Park and Chalmers, a nationally accessible transformation lab is being developed within the primary area of Lindholmen – a city within the city with all the components and complexities that are relevant to most urban areas. Not only the physical framework of the location plays an important role, but also the organization of the municipality and its digital twin are central to testing and validating various proposals for innovative solutions. This is done through simulations, visualizations, prototypes, citizen dialogue and testing of new forms of collaboration as well as innovative solutions for transforming the city.
