AI-Driven Drug Discovery and Development (AID3): Sweden´s Strategic Platform for Pharmaceutical Innovation
Research Project, 2025 – 2026

Purpose and goal
Purpose: To prepare AID3 for a high-impact launch, equipped with the strategic tools, structures, and partnerships needed to position Sweden as a global leader in AI-driven pharmaceutical research by 2035.

Specific aims are to
i) establish a robust organizational framework including leadership, internationalization, financial strategy and intellectual property;
ii) define AI strategy, project pipeline and recruitment strategy; and iii) establish structure for AID3 testbed for cocreation.

Expected effects and result
AID3 will be ready for a strong establishment at the end of the planning project. Strategies regarding AI methodology, recruitment of highly competent personnel to the cluster of excellence and project selection have been developed. Further, the organizational structure will be established, international partners identified and international advisors to the cluster of excellence recruited. A clear structure inclusion of projects to the testbed and how the testbed is financed has been developed.

Planned approach and implementation
The project is performed in three work packages. WP1 focuses on organization, communication, utilization, funding and recruitment. WP2 targets the development of a roadmap for activities within AID3, while WP3 is conducting an international mapping of competencies and partners. Participating partners contribute to all work packages to ensure multidisciplinarity and input from different actors and activities that strengthen the cluster.
