Transition to fossil-free door-to-door transport including shipping
Research Project, 2025
– 2027
The project addresses sea and connected inland transport door-to-door. To accelerate the decarbonization, transport providers need to offer green services that address transport-buyers’ short-term and long-term needs so that green transport services match transport-buyers' service expectations including environmental requirements. Services can be combined and tailored to customer segments and service requirements with the goal to accelerate green transport and CO2 reduction. For instance, offers differing to first movers compared to transport-buyers needing incentives. Use of nudging, coordination, power structures and trust may be needed to accelerate interest in green services.
Other actors in the transport chain, such as hauliers, railway operators, inland terminals have an important role in the transport solutions. Research on this strong industry-driven development towards green transport services is required to understand the role of transport providers as enablers to accelerate the development towards fossil-free and efficient supply chains in interaction with transport-buyers and key actors.
