Enhancing Glycomic and Biomass Valorization Capabilities through Advanced Carbohydrate Analysis with PED
Research Project, 2026
– 2028
This grant supports the strengthening of advanced glycomic and carbohydrate analysis capabilities to underpin our research on the valorization of lignocellulosic biomass, particularly forestry-based side streams. Glycans and carbohydrate structures play a central role in biomass functionality, processability, and reactivity, and their precise characterization is essential for understanding and controlling biorefinery processes.
The proposed analytical system enables high-resolution, derivatization-free profiling of mono- and oligosaccharides, providing critical insight into biomass fractionation, hydrolysis efficiency, and conversion pathways. Enhanced glycan analysis will support the development of sustainable materials and bio-based products by enabling informed optimization of processing strategies and feedstock selection. Overall, this acquisition will substantially strengthen our analytical infrastructure and accelerate innovation in biomass valorization and circular bioeconomy research.
