New Swedish microwave missions in the era of AI and new space
Research Project, 2026
– 2030
Sweden is a leader in satellite-based microwave radiometry. This project strengthens that role by enabling advanced analysis of instrument trade-offs through improved simulations, addressing challenges caused by AI and ”new space.” Chalmers is developing software for AAC Omnisys to assess future instrument concepts, including a high-frequency version of the Arctic Weather Satellite (AWS). The enhanced simulation capacity will improve the exploitation of AWS data performed at Chalmers and provide the basis for a climate data record from the upcoming Sterna constellation. Thus, the project has both strong industrial and scientific impact, as well as training of young researchers in these skills.
