The design developer competition as the tool for development of sustainable housing design.
Research Project, 2021 – 2024

The overall aim of the project is to plan and conduct two land allocation competitions focused on climate-adapted housing. The competitions are carried out in collaboration with the Municipality of Norrköping, which provides two development-ready sites: one located in a suburban setting and the other in the centrally located Inner Harbour district.

The competitions serve as professional laboratories and experimental arenas for addressing climate challenges through research-supported design and development. Norrköping Municipality aims to promote a forward-looking approach to housing development that goes beyond the requirements for net-zero energy buildings.

For this reason, the land allocation competitions are directed towards multidisciplinary design teams with expertise in architecture, engineering, construction, materials, and property management. Participating teams are expected to develop climate-adapted housing proposals and produce climate declarations at the early stages of the design process.
