Maritime LBG Demand – Domestic Solutions
Research Project, 2026
Shipping needs access to liquefied biogas (LBG) for its transition. The possibilities to meet the need with domestic biomethane are good in Sweden, but technical and informational solutions are needed to link the potential with shipping. The project will contribute knowledge to facilitate this implementation.
The project is about making LBG available and has two tracks: technical and informational solutions. Both aim to promote a growing market, towards shipping with regard to competing sectors. Several value chains are being investigated: liquefaction at ports and at site for biogas production, transport of mobile gas storage of compressed biomethane to hubs for feeding into the gas network and handling of biomethane as methane hydrate.Shipping needs access to liquefied biogas (LBG) for its transition.
