Region and local authorities in balance?
Research Project, 2018 – 2021

Sweden displays growing inter- and intraregional differences in income, education, health, job opportunities and welfare services. These differences are the most alarming in regions with increasing urbanisation. This research project scrutinizes how uneven development is addressed and dealt with in the Västra Götaland Region, through a study of regional policy and planning. The aim is to compare the regional development policy, which is based on a mutual agreement between all municipalities in the region and which focuses on the development of Gothenburg as a regional core, with the different municipalities’ own plans and aspirations. The project aims at increasing the knowledge of uneven geographic development, as well as strengthening the social aspects of sustainable development.
