Novel high-silica small-pore zeolite catalysts for direct partial oxidation of methane to methanol
Research Project, 2018 – 2021

In the proposed project, novel catalysts will be prepared and evaluated for direct partial oxidation of methane to methanol. Specifically, high-silica small-pore zeolites and zeotypes will be synthesized and functionalized with highly dispersed copper or iron ions, providing the active sites for partial oxidation of methane to methanol. The project combines zeolite synthesis and functionalization, in situ spectroscopy, where the active sites are probed, and kinetic measurements of catalytic activity and selectivity for methanol formation. The approach targets one of the dream reactions in heterogeneous catalysis and will increase the impact of catalysis research in Sweden.
