Graphene Coatings for High-End textiles
Research Project, 2018

The interest in graphene in textiles has gained considerable momentum recently. However, most of the work has been done by academic researchers whereas very little has been shown by the industry. A couple of reasons for this is that the cost of graphene is still high and that it is unknown how to apply the graphene to textiles in an efficient and cost-effective manner which is compatible with industrial processes. This project will investigate a coating of graphene to improve the surface properties of existing textiles. Both UV protection and advanced controlled moisture transport will be included. The coating will be done using both conventional techniques such as impregnation as well as by up-coming technology such as spraying or ink-jet printing. The patent landscape will also be investigated in order to increase the knowledge about future opportunities.
