Towards new more efficient solar cell materials

The theoretical maximum efficiency of any (single‐junction) solar cell can be raised to 42%, well above
the so called Shockley–Queisser limit of 32%, simply by adding in a new type of material that support
singlet fission (SF). Although a hot and rapidly evolving research topic, the development of these esoteric materials is still in its infancy. The aim of this project is to establish guidelines how to design and produce such materials. More specifically, the goal of this “Small Project” is to produce materials required to complete our project on SF in self‐assembled 2D‐crystals on metal oxide surfaces, partly
funded by the Swedish Energy Agency, and swiftly disseminate our promising findings.
