3D model of the Chalmers energy plant
Research Project, 2019 –

The present application regards funding for the build-up of a 3D model of the Chalmers energy plant. Such a 3D representation of the Chalmers energy plant would represent a mother file from which
different materials could be developed for activities within energy research, education and utilization:

• Research: planning of experiments and their logistics will be eased by having access to an overall 3D representation, especially when external partners (e.g. guest researchers or consultants) are
participating.
• Education: the Chalmers energy plant is used for both on-site labs and study visits in two courses (SEE020 Termisk energiomvandling, MEN031 Combustion Engineering). Material showing the different processes, elements, sampling ports, walking routes, etc, will enable better preparation of the labs and study visits and the on-site understanding of the processes analysed.
• Utilization: the point cloud and CAD model generated can be used to further develop outreach tools such as animations representing different processes and research projects, or on-line 3D
web-flash representation of the geometry and processes.

In summary, a state-of-the-art research infrastructure as the Chalmers energy plant deserves a modern, intuitive and attractive representation for all of its purposes.
