Innovation management in construction companies
Research Project, 2019 – 2021

Purpose and goal
The aim of the project is to increase the innovation capacity of the construction sector, from strategic management level to operational project level. Innovation will be integrated as a natural part of the organization of building projects. This will be enabled by developing important roles and functions within client organizations in their ability to lead the innovation work and to learn from experience. The project will test and develop methods based on research and experience.

Expected results and effects
The organizations that are included in the project will be better prepared to meet and facilitate challenges, e.g. Agenda 2030. Based on tests of methods and models, evaluation and adjustment, two concrete offers will be made to the target group organizations and above all their project organizations; a guide for dissemination in the industry and an innovation management program adapted for client organizations. These will be able to disseminate knowledge on how to increase the innovation capacity.

Planned approach and implementation
Two conceptual models will be tested within the connected projects. The models have been developed by FOG and were partially tested by Akademiska Hus during the A Working Lab-project at Johanneberg Science Park. The researchers from Chalmers have evaluated these models. Further developed versions of these models will be tested and evaluated by the builders within the BI-project. Based on these tests, a guideline and a program for increased innovation capacity will be developed. Seminars and educations will be arranged.
