Virtual Gothenburg Lab
Research Project, 2020 – 2022

Purpose and goal: To increase the city´s innovation capacity and power of change, Virtual Gothenburg Lab creates a unique opportunity to test and develop working methods and tools for visual, digital and virtual way of work. Virtual Gothenburg Lab is linked to the city´s digital twin Virtual Gothenburg and provides support for Gothenburg City´s urban development with the aim of improving the conditions for analysis, insight, planning, decision-making, learning, communication, collaboration and participation. Expected results and effects: After completion of the project, Virtual Gothenburg Lab should be established, tested and evaluated, and updated based on results, open and available for testing. There should be proposals for long-term management and development, as well as clear terms and conditions. With the help of Virtual Gothenburg Lab, Virtual Gothenburg can develop the usefulness of the digital twin for urban development and provide the exchange and momentum for a digital, cross-border way of working.
Approach and implementation: Challenges in the pilot areas and needs of the testers are what shapes the design of the test bed. Infrastructure and working methods are being built in parallel in close cooperation between the planned activities. The project will work with a user-driven iterative development process of the testbed´s features, such as visualization technology, models, data and interoperability with external tools. Tests are carried out by evaluating, verifying and using a solution. Each test is summarized in a case description, including visualization solutions and methods, as well as conclusion.
