Electric Aviation in Sweden (Elise part 2)
Research Project, 2020
– 2022
Purpose and goal: The purpose is to coordinate development and use of electric aircraft in Sweden. The project is a continuation of Elise Step 1, run between April 2018 and January 2019. In this step, a consortium of relevant competencies was formed with RISE, Heart, Icarus Simulation, North Sea Drones, Chalmers, KTH, LiU, LTU and Uppsala University. The goal is to establish a Swedish electric aviation industry, with the first aircrafts in traffic by 2025, and to build world-leading research for the next generation of electric aviation. Expected results and effects: The result goals are to have a solution for short range electric air travel ready for beginning industrialization. Our societal vision is that most Swedish domestic flights in 2030 should take place in electric aircraft. Our industrial vision is that Swedish industry is the world leader within electric aerospace technology by 2030. Expected outcome: Aerodynamic and preliminary structural design. Airline-airport collaboration. Certification roadmap. Electric drivetrain and charging infrastructure. Approach and implementation: Heart: aircraft design work and have a large role in the business and market work. North Sea Drones: build the composite subscale models of the aircraft. Icarus: develop the next-gen aerodynamics software that will be used for the aerodynamic design of the aircraft. UU: explore future technologies. Chalmers: support subscale testing, propeller design and range extenders. KTH: support aerodynamic design. LiU: support aerodynamic design and subscale flight testing. LTU: support the autonomy and air traffic control. RISE: lead the project and support the business and market work.
