Policy and analysis in a new environment: an application of EMEC-TIMES

Both energy system models and general equilibrium models are a important tools in strategic energy planning at the national level. The models have fundamental differences and therefore give different answers to questions such as the costs of various policy measures. By soft-linking the models, they can be run together in a structured way, and thus, each models respective strength might be utilised, which may contribute to improved and transparent support in policy and decision-making. Previous attempts at soft-linking between TIMES and EMEC worked well, but there are parts of the process should be improved. In this project, theses improvements should first be done, and then the soft-linked models used for policy and scenario analysis, and to assess how and to what extent the soft-linking can actually contribute to the Energy Agency forecasting.
