Comparative KPI’s for integration of biofuel production in CHP processes
Research Project, 2017 – 2018

Techno economic studies cannot be carried out without reliable information about performance and costs for different unit operations. To compare technologies that produce energy carriers that have different technical maturity is a challenge. For bio-based CHP, well established experience and proven ratios exists that can be used for scaling and for estimating performance and investment costs when planning new projects. For bio-fuel processes, equivalent knowledge is not established, especially not for the sub-processes gasification and gas cleaning and the relationship between these two process areas and cogeneration. The goal of the project is to generate relevant comparative figures that can be used to assess future plants for co-production of power, heat and biofuels. The project builds on the experience from Chalmers’ and Göteborg Energi's experience from Chalmers gasifier and the GoBiGas plant, complemented with data from design, operation and evaluation of power plants.
