iTEM - Integrated Transmission and Electric Motor
Research Project, 2018 – 2020

This project is an important stepping stone in the ambition to replace fossil fuels by offering true electric vehicle performance in an affordable PHEV. This project is also very important in establishing a strong foothold for Swedish electromobility research and thus securing future strong support from Geely to Swedish automotive development. In this project CEVT and Chalmers develop a transmission with an integrated electric drive with strongly integrated controls. The focus of this project is to solve two of the main issues for powertrain development, namely cost of electrification and efficiency of the complete powertrain. By a high level of integration, coupled to high power density, and an efficient mechanical design allowing an optimal use of the powertrain, we can accomplish this target. The estimated component cost for this solution is a reduction of 30% compared to current solution. The target for power density is 30 kW/litre installed volume for the electric machine.
