Yujing Liu

Full Professor at Electric Power Engineering


After 17 years working in ABB Corporate Research with the last position of Senior Principal Scientist, Yujing Liu became a full professor in 2013 on electrical power engineering at Chalmers with focus on the applications of electrical machines and power electronics in sustainable electrical systems. Yujing Liu leads his research team to develop innovative and cost-effective solutions for renewable energy conversion and transportation electrification. Some examples of on-going research include (1) electrical machines for high sustainability (up to 400 kW); (2) SiC inverters with high performance (up to 500 kW); (3) motor emulator and control; (4) drive systems for vehicle applications; (5) electrification of heavy-duty off-road equipment; and (6) inductive power transfer (up to 500 kW). He has been Chalmers' project leader in 4 EU Horizon2020 projects and 2 EU Marie-Curie projects. He teaches the course "Electrical Machines: Design and Analysis" for about 80 master students every year and the course "High Efficiency Electrical Machines" and "Power Converters with Wide Bandgap devices" for PhD students. Now he supervises 4 postdoc, 5 PhD students, and a dozen master students. Since 2018 he acts also as the Head of Unit for Electrical Machines and Power Electronics at Dept. of Electrical Engineering at Chalmers.
