Electrification of marine urban transport systems - Pre-study charging
Research Project, 2019 – 2020

Cities around the world are facing the challenge of satisfying the need of transports of goods and humans without harmful emissions. Electrification has lately positioned itself as the technical enabler that many cities see as the solution for these challenges.
The plan is to establish a marine demo arena in the next phase of the ElectriCity cooperation, which enables seamless electrified public transport through land and water. A key in order to realize a scalable marine public transport is that high voltage charging capabilities also can be realized in a marine environment.
Volvo together with ABB and Chalmers Technical University is applying for support from Energimyndigheten to conduct a pre study with ambition to map, clarify and propose a direction for development of conceptual solutions for ferries and charging infrastructure that at a later stage can be realized in a marine demo project.
