Structures for digitalized information handling and planning in construction (DigiPlan)
Research Project, 2018

Due to global competition and a boom in the construction industry, have companies involved in construction projects streamline their resource utilization. The VINNOVA-funded RePlan project showed that tactical planning at multi project level has a great potential to increase resource efficiency in the construction industry. This by creating an overview of available resources and resource needs, but also reducing the work with re-planning at different actors. In order to realize the potential with increased resource efficiency, information and information sharing between different actors need to be digitized. This new project aims at developing opportunities for effective information sharing within and between companies involved in construction projects that enable more efficient planning at all levels and at all parties by creating digital structures for data collection and databases. This includes identifying what information have to be collected for each project, creating processes for how to collect data as well as how the data should be structured and shared to enable efficient dissemination and planning in the construction process, as well as material supply and waste management. Current computer systems are difficult to integrate and there is a lack of structures and processes for how information should be stored, for facilitating a reuse of data and resource efficiency and shortening construction times. As the construction industry is Sweden´s largest industry, improved planning, which increases cost-effective use of resources, has a major impact on society as a whole through more residential housing at lower costs. This is an important step in VINNOVA´s efforts to digitize the Swedish industry to create competitiveness.
