Robust enzymatic and microbial conversion and valorization of bio refinery side streams
Research Project, 2019 –

This year we will focus developing a specific genome editing technique and in developing syngas fermentation and connect that with electrochemical fermentation. A post doc, Vaskar Mukherjee, will work part time on developing genome editing targeting the regulatory network in the microorganism (CRISPRi), this is an alternative tool for cell factory design. A year ago, we started to build up a research platform on syngas fermentation. As a small part of this effort, here a post doc, Soroush Saheb Alam, will work part time on establishing and develop electrochemically fermentation technologies directed towards syngas fermentation using acetogenic microorganisms. Following this, we will further develop our fermentation platform using this electrochemical fermentation. For this part we will use one of our research engineers (20 %) to support building up the activity with respect to establishing equipment and installations This research field is at a very early state that has a large potential to develop to become very important. The focus here, will be on developing the potential electrochemical fermentation to steer redox reaction in the cellular metabolism, which is a foundation for reaching high yields of the targeted product.
