Quantification of damping mechanisms of active constrained layer treatments
Journal article, 2005

An approach that allows quantification of damping mechanisms of active constrained layer (ACL) treatments was presented. Three indices quantify the efficiency of the three identified damping mechanisms in the approach. It was found that the different damping mechanisms simultaneously reduce vibrations in ACL treatments. The results show that with high shear modulus of the viscoelastic material, the optimum control voltage was lower and less sensitive to changes of the stiffness that might occur with temperature variations.
