High speed VCSELs for short reach communication

We demonstrate 850 nm datacom VCSELs capable of 40 Gbps transmission over multimode fiber. With a design for high differential gain, low gain compression, reduced photon lifetime, reduced capacitance and reduced thermal impedance, we achieve a modulation bandwidth of 23 GHz.
