Modeling of Diesel Fuel Spray Formation in OpenFOAM
Other conference contribution, 2011

The limitation of CO2, noxious emissions and soot in the exhaust of internal combustion engines is one of the most important challenges facing the automotive industry. Another challenge is the reduction of fuel consumption. CFD became an increasingly used and important tool in the development of internal combustion engines while the simulation of fuel sprays and combustion is very challenging. By injecting fuel in a high temperature surrounding a two-phase flow is generated including heat transfer and evaporation. All the physical and chemical processes are described using different sub models. In this work the VSB2 spray model was implemented in the opensource code OpenFOAM and the model was validated using spray experiments.
