Design for Safety
Conference poster, 2012

Aspects on safety on the cell and system level are still of primary interest for automotive lithium-ion batteries. The batteries are sensitive to overheating eventually resulting in exothermal reactions which can lead to gassing, fire and ruptures. Results of abuse tests regarding overcharging of iron phosphate cells are presented and their consequences on the system level are discussed. How passive safety can be taken into consideration when designing the system is also discussed.
