Structure-borne sound characterization of structures in coupled conditions applying a time domain approach
Paper in proceeding, 2015

© 2015 by ASME. In previous work Pavić et al. presented a method to characterize a vibration source when coupled via resilient mounts to a receiver structure. By the means of a two-step measurement procedure the mobility and free velocity of a source is determined, together with the mobility of the receiver to which it is connected, without decoupling the two structures. The great advantage of this approach is that it does not require any knowledge of mount properties that are often only known with limited accuracy. The only condition which has to be fulfilled is the conservation of coupling forces and moments across the mounts. In the present paper this method - known as principal method - is implemented in the time domain. A standard Least Mean Square (LMS) algorithm is used to determine the mobility and free velocity of the source structure as well as of the receiver structure. The results show that the low sensitivity of the LMS algorithm with to measurement noise makes the approach to be an interesting alternative to existing frequency domain approaches for solving inverse problems. The approach also offers advantages when dealing with non-stationary or even transient signals.
