Utsläpp av växthusgaser från Göteborgarnas flygresor
Report, 2016

The City of Gothenburg has since 2008 a consumption-based climate target which is including emissions occurring outside the city boundaries due to the residents' consumption, for example from air-travel. The city's climate program from 2014 includes the goal that ”The climate impact of citizen’s air travel will be reduced by at least 20 percent by 2030, compared to 2010.” The City of Gothenburg have therefore a clear need to be able to measure and monitor emissions from air travel. This report is a crucial step in this process. The report covers, for the first time, annual data on greenhouse gas emissions from citizens’ air-travel. The results show that the average citizen in Gothenburg (as well as for Swedes on average) cause around 1.2 tonnes of CO2-eq / person per year from air travel (about 1.0 tonnes from private travel and 0.2 tonnes from business trips). This represents more than half of a sustainable emissions budget in order to reach the two-degree target in 2050 and is in the same range as for example the climate impact of car travel.
