Statistical analysis of soliton robustness to polarisation-mode dispersion
Journal article, 2000

Polarization mode dispersion (PMD) is a random process and to understand soliton in detail, statistical properties of the soliton pulsewidth variation under the influences of PMD must be investigated. The statistical characteristics of soliton pulse robustness to the effects of PMD were studied for the first time by numerical simulation. It was shown that both group velocity dispersion (GVD) and soliton energy significantly influence soliton robustness to PMD, and that the soliton robustness to PMD can be enhanced by optimizing the GVD and pulse energy.
