Teaching the Sustainable Development Goals based on Smart Grids and vice versa
Paper in proceeding, 2022

Fulfilment of the sustainable development goals seems to be the most promising way to battle the greatest challenge for the world today, the climate change. The fulfilment requires many different types of multidisciplinary actions, including technology development. In order to teach the goals based on smart grids, two alternative assignments were created. Each student focused either on the targets of a specific goal or on a smart grid related trend. The student then wrote a 2 to 3-page essay on the matter, covering both the developed and the developing country perspectives. The work was precedented by an introductory lecture on the development goals and contained lectures on smart grids as well as student led seminars. Both assignments were appreciated by the students. Some students stated that the assignments did not only contribute to the learning on the sustainable development goals but also on smart grids itself, which was a positive spin-off effect.
