Optimization of Waveforms for Energy-Efficient Communication
Paper in proceeding, 2024

A new waveform design technique to improve the energy efficiency of a communication system using quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) for a given throughput is presented. The proposed method optimizes the mutual information using probabilistic shaping for a given power consumption. In certain cases, we show that the optimization problem is convex and can be solved efficiently. Our numerical results show that the proposed waveform design technique outperforms standard QAM signaling in terms of spectral efficiency for any power consumption level.
