Series Editorial: Optical Communications and Networks
Other text in scientific journal, 2026

Optical communication networks are evolving into intelligent unified platforms through dynamic and autonomous management of transport, control, and computing resources. They are being designed to natively support AI, edge computing, and advanced wireless technologies, including millimeterwave, terahertz, and optical wireless, while satisfying the stringent requirements of capacity, latency, resilience, and energy efficiency. This paradigm shift involves end-to-end networks convergence, sustainability-aware network operation, space-air-terrestrial networks integration, and the emerging integrated sensing and communication technologies.
