The role of night trains in the future of long distance travels.
Report, 2025

The European Green Deal imposes a reduction of transport emissions by 2050 by up to 90% of 1990 levels.
The long-distance travel market is dominated by air travel, whose industry contributes to around 3,8% of total CO2 emissions in the EU.
A case study has been conducted in Sweden to investigate the potential of international and domestic night train as an alternative to flights. The potential travel demand shift and the reduction of associated emissions were investigated.
