Fluid dynamic modeling of CFB units
Paper in proceeding, 2002

A comprehensive (macroscopic) model for the fluiddynamics of circulating fluidized beds has been developed. The model is directed towards industrial sized units such as boilers and gasifiers and includes the entire CFB loop. Different solid fractions, particle size distributions, particle interaction and back-flow effects at the riser outlet are considered. Results from the model show good agreement with experimental data from large-scale CFB boilers (ranging from 12 to 226 MWth). The paper focuses on the freeboard modeling, including solids size segregation.
