Vitor Fernando Placido da Conceicao
Navy Captain graduated from the Portuguese Naval Academy in 1994. I became a navigation specialist and sailed for over ten years, with two commissions as Commanding Officer. At the Hydrographic Institute, I pursued my work in the field of maritime safety and navigation technologies. In 2011, I received a Master's Degree in Positioning and Navigation Technology from the University of Nottingham. Since 2014, I have been a lecturer at the Naval Academy and a researcher at the Portuguese Navy's Research Center. Between Dec 2019 and Dec 2022, I was deputy director of the Research Center. In Dec 2022, I was appointed Academic Dean of the Naval Academy. Since 2015 I have been pursuing a PhD program at Chalmers University of Technology, Dept. Shipping and Marine Technology (Sweden) in the field of Maritime Human factors. My research focuses on the navigation performance of human and automated systems, decision-making, sociotechnical systems, maritime safety, resilience and simulation in support of maritime education.
