Bio-Based Circular and Reprocessable Thermoset Composites for Sustainable Structural Applications (BIOreCURE)
Forskningsprojekt, 2027 – 2029

The BIOreCURE project aims to establish an MSCA-SE consortium that brings together leading 6 Academic and 6 Non-academic partners from 6 EU and 2 Associated HE countries. The consortium combines expertise in Chemistry (polymer chemistry, plastics, structural materials), Product and process engineering (materials engineering, sustainable and eco-design), Economics (competitiveness, innovation, R&D of natural resources, environmental economics), and Environmental and social sciences (circular economy). Together, 14 partners will investigate Innovative Advanced Materials (IAMs), focusing on fully bio-based composites from vitrimer resin matrices reinforced with multi-scale natural fibres, designed to deliver high performance to civil engineering and construction materials alongside recyclability and circularity. The BIOreCURE project will foster intersectoral collaboration by uniting academic and industrial partners to advance sustainable materials science with a focus on bio-based polymers, composites, and circular design. Through staff mobility and secondments, the project will enhance ERs&ESRs research and transferable skills, supporting ESRs employability and career development. Collaborative R&I network will strengthen institutional capacity and contribute to EU Green Deal priorities by developing reprocessable, recyclable, and envionmental low-impact materials. Staff training and mobility activities will cultivate a new generation of ESRs skilled in sustainable and circular materials, while the translation of fundamental insights into innovation-driven industrial solutions will enable eco-efficient design, manufacturing, and end-of-life strategies for industry and business.
