Galaxhopar, submillimeter galaxer och kosmologi med APEX
Forskningsprojekt, 2010 – 2013

The purpose of the project is to investigate the properties of the hot gas in galaxy clusters and the possibility of using galaxy clusters as cosmological probes via multi-wavelength Sunyaev-Zeldovich (SZ) observations with instruments on APEX. A third, related, goal is to identify and characterize faint background submm galaxies that are lensed by massive galaxy clusters. All bolometer arrays on APEX will be used: the SZ-dedicated ASZCA, operating at 2 mm, LABOCA, at 870 microns, and SABOCA at 350 microns. The ASZCA observations are part of a large SZ survey carried out by an international collaboration and for which a Large Programme of 162 hours (9 days) has been granted by the Swedish time allocation committee, in addition to one month of German time allocated in 2009. I am also interested in theoretical work, mainly semi-analytical calculations using physical, empirical and phenomenological approaches as a way to gain a better understanding of phenomena related to the SZ effect in clusters of galaxies and cosmology.
