Advanced Optical Methods
Forskningsprojekt, 2014
– 2017
The goal of this project is to develop and test advanced optical and laser-based methods for spray and combustion diagnostics, which will be applied to spray and engine measurements in collaboration with CERC-researchers involved in other projects. Typical techniques include shadowgraphy/schlieren imaging (often at high speed), luminescence/chemiluminescence imaging including 2-color imaging for temperature (often at high speed), particle image velocimetry (PIV), phase Doppler interferometry, elastic scattering from drops (often called Mie scattering) in an imaging format, planar laser induced fluorescence (PLIF, for vapor and gas phase species) and planar laser induced exciplex fluorescence (PLIEF, for vapor and liquid) imaging, and ballistic imaging of primary breakup dynamics in the optically dense region of a spray.
