DFN-model of Hard Carbon for Na-ion batteries

Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) are an analogy of Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), where the Na-ion is the charge carrier. SIBs have a large potential to be more environmentally friendly than LIBs, unlike Li, Na is abundant and accessible worldwide. The electrode materials used for SIB consist of abundant materials, such as iron, coal and nitrogen. Today, SIBs are about to become commercialized, and several start-ups have produced and demonstrated prototype cells for a few specific applications. Physics-based models are a strong tool in the development of Li-ion batteries and can be for Na-ion batteries as well. This pre-study aims to construct and evaluate the LIBs well-established physics-based Doyle-Fuller-Newman (DFN) model for a SIB negative electrode material, Hard carbon. The DFN-model will be evaluated for suitability of simulating processes of Na-ion in Hard carbon during load.
