Krafttag inom forskning på hållbar batteriteknik
Forskningsprojekt, 2019

With the current trends in electromobility, research on batteries is of increasing importance. Today several research initiatives of different sizes exist at Chalmers, both in the fields of battery materials science, battery technology and battery recycling, as well as in environmental and sustainability assessment. However, there is currently not any extensive collaboration between the different initiatives and potential synergies have not yet been fully realized. There is now a window of opportunity to put a wider perspective of Chalmers’ research on batteries on the map. This cross-disciplinary project gathers and further develops the state-of-the-art knowledge on sustainable batteries for the automotive sector and especially on sustainability assessments.

The project is carried out as a series of small challenge driven projects, partially created in workshops between the involved researchers and invited experts and other stakeholders, with work being done in between to gather and synthesize knowledge. In particular, trends and needs in the three different areas will be covered and integrated with the overall goal of creating a platform for knowledge generation on sustainable batteries for the automotive sector:

·       Battery materials and technologies

·       Battery recycling and re-use

·       Environmental and sustainability assessment of batteries
