Plattform för könsinitiativ inom distribuerad kvantmaskininlärning
Forskningsprojekt, 2020 – 2021

Machine learning has become a powerful tool for finding patterns in data and is considered as one of the most important artificial intelligience techniques. With an ever-increasing amount of data, current machine learning systems are rapidly approaching the limits of classical computational models. Quantum systems, where a quantum version of bit, i.e., qubit, can stay in superposition of two states, are able to realize an exponential scaling factor for computing, significantly outperforming the classical computing that only has linear scaling capability. However, the efficiency of current quantum computers is largely limited by the computation power of a single quantum processor. In this regard, distributed quantum machine learning is introduced in the project, which takes advantages of interconnecting multiple quantum processors by optical communication networks and opens a new way to enhance learning capability.

The project will be driven by three young female researchers, who are currently at differene stages of their career development, Prof. Jiajia Chen (E2), Dr. Rui Lin (E2) and phd student Jiaying Yang (MC2). The envisioned platform for gender initiatives not only supports technical activities but also provides mentoring opportunities, which has a potential to greatly contribute to gender equality at Chalmers.
