The effect of factory floor productivity improvements on operational performance metrics

This paper identifies productivity improvements and its relation with commonly used performance metrics. The purpose is to add empirical knowledge of how productivity improvements affect financial results in order to motivate investments based on data directly acquired from manufacturing shop floors. Seven project leaders responsible for various improvement projects were interviewed to collect data. The interview study explain that the most recurring problems, problem solving actions, improvements and the results from these improvement actions, can be described with three productivity dimensions, method, performance and utilization.
