An experimental study of distributed consensus protocol in AUTOSAR based system

AUTOSAR (AUTomotive Open System Architecture) is a layered and modular software architecture which simplifies the complexity of automotive system design. Currently, this standard has no support for fault tolerance. Fault tolerance will be required in the design for future automotive systems to avoid catastrophic system failures and hazardous events. In this paper, we present an experimental study of fault tolerance by means of software in AUTOSAR based system. The aim of the experiment is to investigate how fault tolerance mechanism can be implemented in AUTOSAR based system. We implement distributed consensus protocol to investigate the impact of fault tolerance in distributed scenario. In addition, we measure the timing overhead of consensus protocol in which we observe that execution time declines with the increasing number of joining nodes.
