Partial discharge activity studied by its excess current
Paper i proceeding, 2018

Study of partial discharge (PD) provides valuable information for selection and developing dielectric materials in modern high voltage engineering applications. This paper introduces a measurement setup built upon dielectric response technique to study different kinds of excess currents correlated with PD activity. These additional currents occurs during and after PD activity and shows some important properties on influencing both the amplitudes and intensity of the PD. The importance of such a measurement is proved through measurements of twisted pair test objects. A simultaneous performed pulse PD detection in the measurement indicates an association between changes in PD intensity and the PD excess current amplitudes. To further support our understandings, tests with air circulating around the test object is also performed to illustrate the excess current and its relation to partial discharge activities.
