“Battle for the surface” (Artificially coloured SEM image) – A tailor-made carbon fibre which was previously lithiated is exposed to air in order to oxidise the lithium inserted in the internal microstructure, causing some dendritic growth on the surface. In the image, thedendrites took a shape that reminded me of two insects battling for control of the carbon fibre surface.
